Cogent Security Raises $42M Series A
Vineet Edupuganti, Co-founder & CEO
Six months ago, we launched Cogent with a simple thesis: the hardest part of vulnerability management isn't finding the problems. It's fixing them.
Today, I'm excited to share that we've raised $42 million in Series A funding led by Bain Capital Ventures, with continued support from Greylock Partners and Definition. Founders and executives from OpenAI, Abnormal Security, and Datadog also invested personally. This brings our total funding to $53 million.
I'm especially proud to welcome Enrique Salem to our Board of Directors. Enrique helped build and scale some of the defining security companies of the last two decades, including Symantec, Rubrik, and Netskope. He knows what it takes to turn a fast-growing security company into a lasting one, and we're lucky to have him.
Why We're Here
The vulnerability management crisis has gotten worse since we launched. Over 48,000 new CVEs were published in the past year alone, 162 percent more than five years ago. And the window between a vulnerability being disclosed and an attacker exploiting it has collapsed, in part because attackers now use AI to move faster than ever.
Most security teams already have tools that find these issues. That's not the bottleneck. The bottleneck is everything after discovery: figuring out who owns the affected system, understanding why this specific vulnerability matters in this specific environment, getting the right fix in front of the right engineer, and confirming it actually got done. That work is still manual. It still involves chasing people through Slack threads and outdated spreadsheets. And it still takes days or weeks while attackers move in minutes.
Security teams don't have a visibility problem. They have an execution problem. That's the gap we built Cogent to close.
What Cogent Does
Our AI agents handle the full lifecycle of vulnerability remediation. They investigate findings in the context of your actual environment, determine who owns what, assess real-world risk, generate remediation steps, and track fixes through to verified completion. Every action is traceable and auditable. Everything runs through configurable approval gates. Organizations deploy autonomous agents without giving up control.
Customers using Cogent have reduced their exposure windows for critical risks by an average of 97 percent. We're already working with dozens of Fortune 1000 companies and marquee brands across financial services, higher education, retail, and more.
The Team
What I'm most proud of is the team we've assembled.
Our co-founders lived this problem firsthand. Geng and I came from Abnormal Security, where we helped scale the company from a small startup to a multibillion-dollar business. Thanos led infrastructure at Coinbase, where he ran large-scale vulnerability remediation programs. We've fused security product leaders from Abnormal, Zscaler, and Wiz with world-class AI and software talent from DeepMind, Coinbase, Databricks, Tesla, and Stripe. Our team includes AI researchers who helped develop the transformer architectures behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
It's a group of operators who have built category leaders and want to do it again.
What's Next
This round of funding lets us double down on our core data and AI platforms, scale our go-to-market efforts, and hire exceptional builders. The future of cybersecurity will be agentic, and we're just getting started.
If you want to see what Cogent can do for your security program, see the product for yourself. And if you're excited by the idea of building agentic AI from the ground up while making the digital world safer for everyone, we're hiring across R&D and GTM.
