How Cogent automated data pipeline orchestration with Temporal

Keeping security data current shouldn’t require engineers to manage pipeline schedules by hand. Here’s how we used Temporal to coordinate data extraction and processing automatically as customers add integrations.

Cogent brings together data from customers’ security, IT, and business systems to inform what needs fixing. Keeping that data current meant engineers were manually setting up extraction and processing schedules, then adjusting their timing as integrations changed.

This case study explains how we replaced that manual coordination with a Temporal coordinator Workflow for each customer. It manages extraction and processing together, responds when integrations are added, and starts processing once extraction finishes. We cover the design, how we handle ongoing work and deployments, and what we would do differently with pipeline dependencies.
